We are proud to announce Cloudby Core 2.0. Ten years after the first version, the engine that runs your business now sits on PHP 8.3 and Laravel 13, on all ten of our servers. It is newer, faster and harder to break than it has ever been, and pages now answer in about 22 milliseconds instead of 90.
Ten years in, version 2.0
Cloudby's core has been running businesses for ten years. In that time it has grown from invoices and ledgers into payroll, inventory, service, projects, fixed assets and much more, all on the same engine.
Version 2.0 marks the biggest change to that engine's foundations since it began. Your screens, your data and the way everything works stay exactly the same. What changed is everything underneath: the language, the framework and the way each server is protected and watched. It is the base we will build the next ten years on.
Why we did it now
A recently disclosed exploit in PHP, the language Cloudby is built on, was a sharp reminder of something we already believed: the safest software is software that stays current. Every version of every framework eventually stops receiving security fixes, and the gap between “a flaw is found” and “a flaw is used” keeps getting shorter.
So we didn’t patch around it. We moved the whole platform onto PHP 8.3 and Laravel 13, the current, fully supported generation of both, and rolled it out to all ten of our servers.
A new era of security
AI has changed how software flaws are found. Tools that can read and test code at enormous speed are uncovering vulnerabilities, including zero-day exploits that nobody knew existed, faster than ever before. That cuts both ways: the same tools help defenders find weak spots first, and help attackers find them too.
We think this means more security discoveries, more often, for every piece of software in the world. The businesses that stay safe won’t be the ones that hope it passes them by. They will be the ones that can update quickly, every time. That is the position we have put Cloudby in, and it is a change we are ready to embrace.
What changed on our servers
- The latest foundations. All ten servers run PHP 8.3 and Laravel 13, with every package pinned to known, current versions.
- Hardened throughout. We reviewed the platform for potential weak spots and closed them as part of the upgrade.
- Watchdogs on every server. Automated checks compare each server against exactly what we released and raise the alarm on anything that shouldn’t be there, such as a file nobody shipped. It is how a backdoor planted by an attacker gets caught early.
- Fleet monitoring. All ten servers report in to one place, so unusual behaviour on any of them is visible to our team straight away.
We won’t go further into the details of how our defences work. That is deliberate: the less an attacker knows, the better.
Faster, too
Security was the reason for the upgrade, but speed came along with it. The average page request on Cloudby has dropped from about 90 milliseconds to about 22.
Average page request, across our servers
You will notice it most on the screens you use all day: lists open sooner, records appear faster, and dashboards fill in quicker.
Our record, and our promise
To date, Cloudby has never had a security incident. We count ourselves fortunate, and we don’t take it for granted. Keeping that record is the reason this work exists.
Our commitment is simple: we will keep our servers and our environment up to date, apply security fixes quickly when they matter, and keep watching for anything that looks out of place. When the next exploit is announced, and there will be a next one, we intend to be already ahead of it.
What you need to do
Nothing. Cloudby works exactly as it did, only faster and on stronger foundations. Here's to the next ten years. Your business is in safe hands with Cloudby.
